Advice for Sudanese refugees going to Israel

Arabic translation question

The last two days I was in Cairo I made trips to all the bookstores I could find and bought enough arabic books to stuff my backpack.  Now I’m starting to translate them for practice and ran into one problem sentence.
How do you translate:
كان أخوه وأخَوَاتُة البنات يكبُرونه بِعدَّة سَنَوات
My best guess is:
He had brothers, [...]
