Pee Bottles
One of the practical skills I’ve developed as a photographer is learning to notice things — not the dramatic moments, but the slow, incremental changes that accumulate in a place over time. When you pass through the same streets year after year, certain patterns start to stand out.
This collection of roadside pee bottles is one of those patterns. It’s not glamorous, and it’s not meant to be. It’s simply something I began spotting regularly, enough that it felt worth documenting. The frequency has changed over the years, and that shift raises its own questions: What’s driving it? What does it say about how people move, work, or travel through these spaces?
There’s no larger argument here — just an observation of a small detail that didn’t used to be as common. Sometimes that’s reason enough to pay attention.
If you notice similar scenes where you live or travel, feel free to send me photos. I’m curious to see how widespread this is and how it varies from place to place.
Submit any bottles to David@DavidDegner.com.
