Anti-ICE Protests in New York City

Protesters leave Foley Square and start marching up Manhattan.

On June 10th, a few hundred protesters gathered in Foley Square to protest ICE detentions in New York City. The protests began with speeches in the square, but as the sun began to set, a large group of protesters started marching up Church Street. The march stretched for many blocks when I left it at White Street.

While returning to Foley Square, I noticed a smaller group of protesters engaged in a confrontation with the police at the intersection of Duane Street and Broadway. The police had strategically positioned themselves on the corners, effectively quartering the protesters. They were arresting a few individuals near Federal Plaza and transporting them into vans on the opposite side of the street.

On a side note, this series was shot with the same infrared camera that I use in the Show Of Force project, but with the photos converted to black and white.
